Family memories

Wild at Heart.

Matti is remembered through the people who knew him best: family, friends, 4-H, teachers and the Kenai community.

How he is remembered

Always moving.

Family memories describe Matti as a boy who could turn almost anything into an adventure. He loved animals, forts, bikes, wrestling, running and the daily freedom of farm life.

His aunt's memorial speech remembers him as a farm hand and cow milker, a competitive athlete, an animal lover and a child who was very difficult to tie down.

Barefoot and full of energy.

Community stories repeatedly remember Matti as cheerful, mischievous, energetic and often barefoot. Those details matter because they keep the story human. Matti's Farm should never reduce him to a logo or a single tragic event.

Sunshine in the house.

At Matti's memorial service, his mother described wearing yellow because Matti brought sunshine to their home on a rainy day. That image now informs the harvest-gold accent used throughout this site.

A life connected to responsibility.

Farm chores, animals, 4-H and family responsibilities were part of Matti's everyday life. The idea behind Matti's Farm grows from that same belief: meaningful responsibility can help young people develop confidence, connection and a sense of purpose.
